About 6s & 7s

NET 6s & 7s ProgrammeWhat is 6s & 7s?
6s & 7s is a small group, early intervention programme designed to improve the social and emotional skills of children aged six and seven so that they become independent and confident learners. This is done by helping children to develop resilience and to improve their self-esteem. Children learn to relate to others and to feel secure in forming effective relationships with peers and adults in the school setting.

How does it work?

The National Education Trust trains school staff to support children within small groups. Two staff from each school are trained over two full days.

The staff (Tutors) learn to role model effective relationship building. They use humour, empathy, body language and appropriate words and tone of voice to support each other and to ensure everyone enjoys the sessions. Children learn to appreciate the impact they, as individuals, have on others and that empathy with others fosters positive relationships and friendships.

6s & 7s runs for 6 sessions, over a course of 6 weeks. Each session is completed in 45 minutes.

A resource pack is provided for participating schools

'The login area of this website will be used as a forum for schools to share news and best practice. New resources, or ideas for sharing, will be published here along with further copies of the tutorial papers.

The Tutors
The selection of appropriate personnel is crucial to the programme's success. Tutors already running 6s & 7s in schools are enthusiastic and excited by the success of the programme.

6s & 7sTeaching Assistants use their work on the programme as part of their portfolio of evidence for meeting appraisal targets, and for achieving HLTA status or other higher level qualification.

The training and support package ensures schools have highly skilled Teaching Assistants.

The programme is used by primary schools to provide evidence for School Improvement Plans, School Self-Evaluation Forms. It highlights key aspects of all five areas of Every Child Matters.
This is an early intervention programme which promotes healthy development, and emotional and social well-being.
